Where to Insert Keywords in your Website for Better SEO?

SEO is the most popular method of making your website appears attractive to searchers as well as, more importantly, the search engines. Earlier, before the Panda and the Penguin updates of Google were released, any no. of keywords could be used anywhere within a website, without following any discretion or without any due regard to relevance of their positioning. But ever since Google started penalizing websites for “keyword stuffing”, the number of keywords used and their position in a website has become critical to successful search engine optimization of any and every website. So, the key to success in attracting visitors, is to avoid using keywords ad nauseam , to use them in proper places, so that it’s easy for the search bots to locate them and use them in a manner maintaining relevance to the context.

In order to comply with the Webmaster’s guidelines and attract maximum traffic, put your keywords in the following positions:

Title Tags: A title tag is what attracts the attention of both the customer and the search engine. So, it’s important to put your selected keywords in this position, i.e. the title tag on each and every page of your website should contain the specific keywords.

Meta-Description Tag: There are quite a no. of hidden metatags only for the search engines to see. The Meta description tag is one of these hidden tags and is part of the bulk of text underneath the link. The keywords should be put within the first 150 characters.

Headers and Sub-Headers: These are prominent areas where it’s easy to grab visitor attention. Hence, the search engines encourage the use of keywords in your headers and sub-headers.

H1 Tag: Of the 6 tags used to define  HTML codings(h1 to h6), “h1 defines the most important one.” Hence placing keywords here makes much sense as regards SEO.

Site Content: Needless to mention, content is the most important component of any website. Hence optimizing the website will obviously include placing keywords in the site content , albeit in a meaningful and relevant manner, so that it is pleasing to the mind and eye. The 1-to -1 rule should also be followed , i.e., the content of any particular page should be optimized for a single keyword.

Link Text: The strength of a website is determined by the strength of its links. So,  adequate and relevant keyword positioning is recommended, so far as anchor text is concerned.

ALT  Attributes: This is an alternative text that defines and describes an image. So, quite obviously this is an eye-ball grabbing spot. Feel free to use your selected keywords here, just don’t go overboard and render your efforts in vain!
